Some films may not be official box-office successes but they go ahead to become cult entertainers. The very same was the case of R. Madhavan and Dia Mirza starrer ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’. The film that released in 2001 gave the millennials a dapper Madhav Shastri (Madhavan) and poised Reena Malhotra (Dia) to swoon over.
Now sixteen years later when Bollywood paved the way for sequels, fans of the film await yet another instalment of the film popularly known as ‘RHTDM’.
In an exclusive interaction with TOI Entertainment, Dia Mirza spilled the beans on the same. “This film is special for both Madhavan and me, we are really humbled by the love we continue to get and I am pretty certain that before we get really old, we will definitely do a sequel,” she quipped. The former Miss Asia Pacific further revealed that the talks are on for a RHTDM sequel. “It’s an exciting and interesting thought that we are thinking of as well,” she said.
Excerpts from the interview:
You have been related with community services since a long time now. What drives you to manage such perennial issues?
I can’t see a problem in not accepting it. When you are brought up in an environment you are encouraged to be a participatory citizen of the world, you are encouraged to be aware and empathetic. You can’t help but want to be a part of the solution. We as celebrities are privileged to be in the public eye. To have a role in society that not just is one that entertains people or spreads joy but to extend oneself from beyond entertainment but actually seek to make a difference in the society. I am very proud to be associated as an artist-ambassador for Save the Children. I love children and children are our present and the future.
By investing in innovations that support children’s health and well-being, such as through the Save the Children Healthcare Innovation, change is possible. I strongly believe that childhood should be a safe time of life for growing, learning and playing. To be part of such initiatives drives me to give back to the society.
What made you take the leap of faith from the industry of glamour to social service?
I am still invested in the entertainment industry just as much as I am invested in social building and community service. I think, they are both deeply intertwined and they are not independent entities. Because I think even as a film producer I chose to generate and create content that can help impact change, that can bring awareness, that can educate people and it does not have to be a cause driven film but it can be a film that drives many causes.
Somehow you have managed to keep these two worlds interlinked. What’s the secret behind that?
Purpose, I think when you have a clearly defined purpose about what you want to do with your life. And I think I identified my purpose, as a communicator, I find that the co-existence of many roles that I carry out in life just integrate beautifully.
‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ has turned out to be one the most incredible film that every actor in their lifetime would have. This film is special for both Madhavan and me, we are really humbled by the love we continue to get and I am pretty certain that before we get really old, we will definitely do a sequel. Or may be some time when we are very old. Because we don’t make love stories of older people, and they have every right to love so you never know. But it’s an exciting and interesting thought that we are thinking of as well.
I did not go anywhere, I am a film producer now, I direct, I am acting as well in a movie this year. I did take a small break from being in front of the camera but I was still in front of the camera, may be not by films but doing many other things that brought me right in front of the camera. I will be seen in a biopic early next year. I am very excited about that film and I am sure before the year ends I would have done few more acting jobs and your answer will be well satisfied.
