Happy Birthday Ayushmann Khurrana: Sperm donor and other things you didn't know about him

As Ayushmann Khurrana turns a year older today, here are some facts we bet you didn't know about him!

Ayushmann Khurrana

He may not be your typical 'hero', but Ayushmann Khurrana is one of the most versatile actors of recent times. The actor, who burst on the Bollywood scene in 2012, has proved that he has the acting chops to match his good looks. Whether it's choosing a quirky subject like sperm donation for his debut film Vicky Donor or playing a man with erectile dysfunction in his most recent release Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Ayushmann has always taken the road less travelled.
As the actor turns 33 today, here are some facts we bet you didn't know about him:

1. Way before Vicky Donor released in 2012, Ayushmann Khurrana donated his sperm in real life. The actor revealed that it was in 2004, when he was a part of the reality show Roadies (he won the second season of the show), that he donated his sperm in Allahabad.

2. The most special moment in Ayushmann's life came when he saw the hoarding of Vicky Donor in the exact same place where a hoarding of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone-starrer Om Shanti Om used to be a few years ago. Back then, Ayushmann was a struggler and would hope that one day, there would be a hoarding with his face there. When it actually happened, he described it as "surreal".

3. It is no secret that Ayushmann is a talented singer; the actor made us fall in love with his rendition of Paani Da Rang. But did you know he sang in trains and collected money when he was still in college? He told IANS, "During my college days, there was a train named Pashchim Express that used to go from Delhi to Mumbai. So I, along with my friends, used to get onto the train and we used to go to every coach to sing and perform. Passengers used to give us money which we used to collect."

4. Ayushmann's father, P Khurrana, is a well-known astrologer in north India, with several books on the subject to his credit. Now we know why he spells his name the way he does!

5. Ayushmann began his career as a radio jockey with Big FM in Delhi and had a show called "Big Chai - Maan Na Maan, Main Tera Ayushmann". He even won the Young Achievers Award in 2007 for the popular show.

6. Apart from being an actor, singer, RJ, television host (the list goes on!), Ayushmann is also a poet.

7. You might think of him as a Punjabi munda, but Ayushmann has Burmese genes as well. His mother, Poonam, is half Burmese.

8. Ayushmann is a huge fan of Shah Rukh Khan and used to have his posters hanging on his walls. In fact, many of his life choices (coming to Mumbai, for instance) have been influenced by SRK.
